Industrial and Cleanroom Wipers: A Buyer's Guide to Materials, Surfaces and Formats

Every workshop, production line and cleanroom wipes something hundreds of times a day. The wiper used for that job affects how clean the part is, how much lint is left behind, how many wipes are used and how much waste goes in the bin. For a distributor, a well-chosen wiper range is a steady, repeat-order business.

This guide is for distributors and brand owners sourcing industrial and cleanroom wipers for their own label. It explains the main materials, surfaces and formats, and what to agree with a manufacturer.

The six material families

  • Polyester-woodpulp spunlace – durable and absorbent; the all-round industrial wiper. Plain, creped or embossed.
  • Polypropylene-woodpulp spunlace – chemical and abrasion resistant, for tougher solvents and rough surfaces. Plain, creped or embossed.
  • Polypropylene meltblown – high absorbency for oils and chemicals; plain or embossed.
  • Viscose and cellulose – absorbent, from renewable fibre; plain or embossed.
  • Bamboo – sustainable and biodegradable; plain or embossed.
  • Microfiber – lint-free and scratch-free, for delicate and polished surfaces.

Most of these start as nonwoven fabric. If you want to understand the base material, see our pages on spunlace and meltblown.

Plain, creped or embossed?

The surface changes how a wiper picks up dirt and liquid. A plain surface is smooth and low-lint, suited to fine wiping. A creped surface is softer and bulkier, for absorbent general cleaning. An embossed pattern adds texture that scrubs and traps dirt, useful for grease and heavier soiling. Match the surface to the job and the user will need fewer wipes.

Formats

  • Centrefeed rolls – pulled from the centre of the roll in a dispenser; the roll stays clean and users take one sheet at a time.
  • Perforated rolls – larger rolls on wall or floor stands for workshops and production lines.
  • Folded packs – flat packs for benches, vehicles and cleanrooms.
  • Dispenser formats – packs and rolls sized for your dispensers.

Where they are used

  • Electronics
  • Aerospace
  • Automotive
  • Food and hospitality
  • Cleanrooms
  • Industrial maintenance

For larger spills, a wiper is not enough; sites keep universal absorbent pads and rolls alongside their wipers.

How to write the specification

  • Material – one of the six families.
  • Surface – plain, creped or embossed.
  • Sheet size and weight – sheet dimensions and gsm.
  • Format – centrefeed roll, perforated roll, folded pack or dispenser format, with sheets per roll or pack.
  • Colour and print – white or colours; branding on packs.
  • Packing – rolls or packs per case, and your labels.

How to test samples

  • Wipe the real thing. Test on the parts, solvents and dirt your customers deal with.
  • Check lint. Wipe a dark, smooth surface and look for fibres left behind.
  • Count the wipes. See how many sheets it takes to clean a typical job compared with your current wiper.
  • Test wet strength. Soak a sheet in the solvent used on site and check that it holds together.
  • Try the dispenser. Make sure sheets feed one at a time without tearing.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Comparing price per roll. Compare cost per clean job; a stronger wiper that does the job in fewer sheets is cheaper in use.
  • One wiper for every job. A cleanroom wipe and a grease wipe need different materials.
  • Forgetting the dispenser. Roll size, core and perforation must suit the dispensers your customers own.

What to ask a supplier

  • Which materials do you make yourselves?
  • Can you supply plain, creped and embossed surfaces?
  • Can you match my sheet size, roll format and dispenser?
  • Can you pack under my brand?
  • Can I combine wipers with absorbents and other products in one container?

How we supply wipers

Samridhi Crreation has manufactured nonwovens in India since 2004, with its own spunlace, meltblown and spunbond lines. We supply distributors worldwide under their own brand (private label / OEM). The minimum order is one 40'HQ container, and 5–6 different products can be combined in it, so wipers can travel with your absorbent range. Standard packing is plain polybags; printed cartons are available on request at extra cost. We ship FOB India from Mundra or Nhava Sheva, with CIF and DAP on request, and provide REACH and SVHC declarations for customers in the European Union. Samples are free, and we pay the courier.

See all materials and formats on our wiping products page, or send us your requirement for a quotation and samples.
