What the floor needs during a procedure

Fluid on a theatre floor slows staff down, creates a slip risk and means a long clean-up before the next procedure. Towels, linen and mops soak through, slide around and add laundry. A disposable absorbent floor roll or mat is laid down before the procedure, takes up the fluid where it falls, and is peeled up and disposed of afterwards, so the room can be turned over faster.

How the product is built

Each roll and mat is engineered in three layers:

• Low-lint coverstock: the top layer stands up to foot and caster traffic.
• High-capacity absorbent core: wicks saline, blood and irrigation run-off across the mat and locks it in, taking up to 25 times its own weight in fluid.
• Anti-slip poly backing (optional): a barrier that stops strike-through to the floor and keeps floors dry and sure-footed.

Where it is used

The same product serves several clinical areas where fluid reaches the floor:

• Operating theatres, around the table.
• Scrub-sink areas.
• Decontamination zones.
• Labour and delivery rooms.
• Dialysis and treatment rooms.
• Veterinary clinics.

Rolls or mats, backed or non-backed

Pre-cut mats are ready to lay, for example around the table or at a scrub sink. Perforated rolls tear to the length needed, which suits rooms of different sizes and long runs. Both come anti-slip poly backed or non-backed. Choose the backed version where the floor must stay dry under the mat and the mat must stay in place; the rolls conform to uneven surfaces.

Choose the absorbent weight for the fluid volumes your customers expect: a mat that is too light for the procedure will saturate. Sizes and weights are made to your specification, so they can be matched to what each customer needs.

Colours and print

Green, blue and grey are the standard colours, and print can be a hi-viz design or your own design. Many hospitals use colours to separate areas or rooms, so agree a colour system with your customers and keep to it.

What these products are, and what they are not

These are latex-free, disposable, single-use floor products, supplied non-sterile. We are a nonwoven manufacturer and supply them to distributors and brand owners. Check the requirements for supplying hospitals in each of your markets, and make sure your packaging, labels and documents meet them.

How we supply

We supply medical-supply distributors and brands under their own name. The minimum order is one 40'HQ container, and 5–6 different products can be combined in it, so floor rolls and mats can travel with other products from our range. Plain polybags are standard; printed polybags, cartons and labels are available at extra cost.
