PTFE felt is made of polytetrafluoroethylene fibers. Which makes it chemical resistant. PTFE can also handle extreme temperatures. Due to these characteristics, PTFE has many uses; in this article, we will understand the features and usage of PTFE felt.
Characteristics of PTFE felt:
1. Chemical Resistant: One of the best features of PTFE felt is that it is highly chemical resistant. This property of PTFE felt is used in various sectors around the world.
2. Can Handle Extreme Temperature: PTFE felt is highly temperature resistant; in the long term, it can handle both extremely high temperatures and extremely low temperatures.
3. Non-Stick: PTFE felt comes with properties that are naturally repulsive to sticky material. This makes the material low on friction and non-stick.
4. Hydrophobic: This material is hydrophobic, which means it repels water. This is why PTFE materials are used to design products that are kept outside, as it is naturally repellent to water, oils, and UV rays.
5. High Electrical Insulation: PTFE felt is often used in high-voltage electronic applications. This is due to its high electric insulation, which prevents corona discharge in high-voltage cables.
Usage of PTFE Felt:
● It is quite important in the petrochemical industry. Due to its chemical-resistant properties, it is used as a seal. In tanks and ducts, it is used as a lining since it does not dissolve in harsh chemicals.
● PTFE filters can filter hot water and can capture fine particles in cement plants and coal-fired boilers. Its filtration property is used pharma industry to filter gas and make it sterile.
● This material is famous for being the lining of the non-stick cookware. PTFE felt naturally repels adhesive material; and its hydrophobic properties make it repulsive to water and oil, which makes it a perfect material to be used as the lining of the cookware to make them non-stick.
● PTFE felt is regularly used in making high-voltage appliances like transformers, power cables, and so on, since it is has high electrical insulation.
PTFE is a high-performing engineering material. Properties like Chemical and extreme temperature resistance and electrical insulation make it an important material in various
